Carolyn (Caz) Sanguinetti
Email:
carolyn.sanguinetti@uct.ac.za
Although born in the UK, Carolyn and her family lived in the DRC until 1991.
With a passion for Africa and its wildlife, Carolyn completed her BSc in
Wildlife Conservation at the Durrell Institute, University of Kent. During her
summer vacations, Carolyn gained conservation experience, initially by
completing her FGASA Level 1 in Namibia in 2007. In 2008, as part of her final
dissertation project, Caz travelled to Peru where she studied kingfishers in
the Lago Preto Reserve. She then worked as a volunteer zookeeper at the White
Oak Conservation Centre in Florida. This zoo focuses on breeding endangered
species and, in particular, is strongly involved with the Okapi from the DRC.
After graduating, Caz worked at White Oak’s research site in the Okapi Faunal
Reserve, Ituri Forest, for 3 months. In 2011 she joined a project run by the
Max Planck Institute assisting with chimpanzee and gorilla habituation in
Loango National Park, Gabon and then worked at Loango Lodge. With these
experiences, she has now decided to undertake the Conservation Biology course
at UCT to develop a deeper understanding of this constantly evolving field of
science. In her spare time, Caz enjoys photography, hiking, fishing and flying
gliders.
