Jeremy GossJeremy Goss

Email: jeremy.goss@uct.ac.za

Jeremy was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. With a father producing wildlife documentaries, he spent his early years in the wild places of Botswana and Namibia and it was here that his passion for the southern African ‘bush’ began. He completed his schooling in the small town of White River in eastern South Africa and then moved to Cape Town to attend UCT. He completed a BSc in 2005, majoring in Environmental and Geographical Science, Economics and Oceanography. He then remained at UCT to complete a BComm honours degree in Economics, with research focusing on the economics of the South African west coast rock lobster industry. In 2007 he moved to Botswana and joined the ecotourism company Wilderness Safaris. For two and a half years he worked as a camp manager in a number of safari camps across Botswana, getting first hand experience of ecotourism as a conservation model. In mid 2009 he left Botswana to complete his private pilot license before spending ten months travelling across eastern Europe, Russia and Asia. His primary interest is the conservation of the remaining large tracts of African wilderness, including analysis of various models for ensuring that their conservation is economically and socially viable, and thus sustainable. Apart from wild places, Jeremy’s interests include cycling, diving, flying, photography, hiking and just about anything that involves being outside.
