Centre of Excellence

Overview

Overview | Goals | Partners | Research Programme

The Percy FitzPatrick Institute has an international reputation for research excellence in ornithology and high quality post-graduate educational programmes in ornithology and conservation biology. In recognition of this achievement, and to support an ambitious new research programme, the Institute was recently identified as a Centre of Excellence in Birds as Keys to Biodiversity Conservation by the Department of Science and Technology and the National Research Foundation. Our research team comprises a national network of researchers from the Percy FitzPatrick Institute and collaborating partners at four other institutions.

"Centres of Excellence (CoE) are physical or virtual centres of research which concentrate existing capacity and resources to enable researchers to collaborate across disciplines and institutions, on long-term projects that are locally relevant and internationally competitive in order to enhance the pursuit of research excellence and capacity development."
