About Dominic
Dominic grew up on farm
outside of Johannesburg, on which he spent many a fascinating day
exploring nature in all its beauty. In 2004, in a misguided attempt to
conform, he started a degree in Business Science at UCT. Dominic quickly
realized that his heart did not lie within the confines of a general
ledger.
In 2006, Dominic began his BSc in Ecology at UCT, and went on to
complete his Honours in Zoology in 2009. Before beginning further
postgraduate studies, Dominic took a year off from academia. After
completing his FGASA courses, he worked as a field guide at Madikwe Game
Reserve, and spent the last few months of 2010 working on a concession
at Cahorra Bassa Dam in Mozambique.
Dominic’s interest in the movement ecology of local waterbirds was
sparked by his honours thesis which focused on understanding the links
between ecological traits and dispersal potential of waterbirds. He is
currently working on a thesis with a similar topic that is based in
isiMangaliso Wetland Park.
Thesis
Water birds and
nutrient dispersal in isiMangaliso Wetland Park (Supervisor: Graeme Cumming)
