Potipahr completed his undergraduate studies
at the University of Malawi and graduated with a Bachelor of Education
(Science) majoring in Biology in 1994. While working with the Museums of
Malawi in the Department of Ornithology he developed an interest in
field research as a result of the field work expeditions he became
involved in. This gave me the background on conservation issues which
prompted me to register for the Conservation Biology Masters Programme
at the FitzPatrick Institute. I completed my masters in 2006 and will
be starting my PhD in July 2007.
My
research interests are mainly on the phylogeographical relationships in
birds, small mammals and other faunal taxa and using molecular data to
help formulate management plans for systematic conservation. My MSc
research thesis title was "Faunal turnover between east and southern
African birds and small mammals: is Malawi the geographical break?" My
PhD research will be a continuation of this work.
Thesis
Faunal turnover between east and southern African birds and small
mammals: is Malawi the geographical break? (Supervisors: Tim Crowe and Rauri Bowie)
