UCT ranked No. 1! |
|
According to a recent issue of Conservation Biology (Vol.
22), UCT is ranked number one for
southern hemisphere institutions for conservation biology
research and is ranked equally with the University of
California, Santa Cruz. Something to be proud of indeed! For more details,

Publications
Publication Process
The Percy FitzPatrick Institute of
African Ornithology DST-NRF Centre of Excellence (CoE) strives
to publish the research generated at the Fitztitute in journals
with a minimum rating of 2. Download the Impact Factors to get
an idea of which journals qualify. If you do not find the
journal you have in mind on this list, either contact the Librarian or consult Web of Science, Additional Resources, on
the UCT Library Electronic Resources Link.
Each journal has its own particular Instructions for Authors which should be followed in order to
submit a paper, including the format for journal titles. This list of journal abbreviations produced by the University of
Queensland library gives the BIOSIS abbreviations format,
alternatively consult Web of Science, Additional Resources for
access to the ISI journal abbreviations format.
Please make sure you alert the librarian to any new publications
as soon as possible. Semi-popular publications are equally
important as they keep the general public informed about the
scientific research carried out by the Fitztitute. Each year the
lists of scientific and semi-popular publications are listed in
the Fitztitute Annual Report and in the Annual UCT Research Report.
Department of
Education (DoE) Publication Count
In March each year scientific research published in International rated and SA rated journals are submitted to the
DoE publication count process, which calculates the DoE funding
to UCT. If you would like to know more about this process
consult the Research Office.
In addition to Scientific Papers published in DoE approved
journals, staff and students may submit books (authored or
edited), chapters in books and papers given at conferences.
These qualify for the publication count if they have been
submitted for peer review. If you wish to know what does and does not
qualify for the DoE publication count please consult the DoE
submission categories.
There are avenues via which postgraduate students can obtain
some funding for publishing the results of their research: these
can be discussed with the Director of
the FitzPatrick Institute.
Other funding opportunities are through the
University Research Committee
(various deadlines) and through
NRF Scholarships and Fellowships.
