Cell: 071 448 9142

Appointed from August 2016, Vonica will facilitate research programmes to assess and mitigate the environmental impacts of industrial-scale solar electricity generation in southern Africa. Her passion for conservation was evident from a young age. She completed her under- and postgraduate studies at the University of Pretoria which included a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (2006), BSc in Plant science (2009), BSc Honours in Wildlife management (2010) and an MSc in Zoology (2016). Her MSc study investigated the effect of future climate change on vertebrates along an altitudinal gradient at Mariepskop Mountain. In 2014, Vonica jumped at the opportunity to overwinter on Marion Island as a seabird researcher for the Fitzpatrick Institute which she described as an amazing, life-changing experience. She is interested in the trade-off between renewable energy development and environmental impact and excited about the conservation potential of the solar power impact projects.
