Tasso Leventis appointed to the Fitz CoE Board

Following the Minister of Science and Technology’s announcement that the Fitz Centre of Excellence (CoE) will be extended until the end of 2019, Tasso Leventis has been appointed to the Fitz CoE Board. Mr Leventis is the Founder and Patron of the A.P. Leventis Ornithological Research Institute (APLORI) in Jos, Nigeria, which is the only other ornithological institute in Africa. He has been involved in international activities which encourage sustainable models of development and, in this capacity, he is a Founder Trustee of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation, Honorary Vice-President of BirdLife International, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a Trustee of the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest Trust, a Board Member of the Cambridge Conservation Initiative, and for seven years was a Trustee of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture in Nigeria. He has supported biodiversity conservation in many countries and encouraged research and education in this field. He also holds an honorary Professorship at the Mariupol University of the Humanities, Ukraine, an honorary Doctorate from the University of Athens as well as honorary Doctorates from the University of Jos and the Agricultural University of Abeokuta, both in Nigeria. We are delighted that Mr Leventis has accepted the invitation to serve on the Fitz CoE Board, being confident that he will bring valuable inputs to the Board and will assist us in building significant ties with the A.P. Leventis Ornithological Research Institute.
